When selecting your geographic distribution rights, it is important to understand that your distribution rights determine in which storefronts your books appear, and therefor, how your readers can purchase your books across the world.
At Kobo, we categorize countries/regions (geos) into two main groups:
Dedicated Storefront Geos: these are regions where we have established dedicated storefronts, such as Canada, the US, Japan, the UK, and others. Both publishers and KWL authors are able to control their rights and prices in each of these geos. These include all the geos listed in your KWL Dashboard in the "Rights and Distribution" section.
Non-Storefront Geos: these are regions where we currently do not have dedicated storefronts, including countries like Hungary and many areas in Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa. Although we haven't built specific storefronts for these geos yet, readers from these regions can still purchase books from Kobo through our worldwide store. However, there are limitations that come with this; only one price can be applied to the worldwide store, as we don't support those geos' local currencies, meaning that a book's price in Hungary and Nigeria will be the same.
Currently, we don't have the ability to allow authors to make their books available in only parts of the worldwide store. If an author wants their book to be available in our worldwide store, they must set worldwide rights.
